Selvamani, a 45 year old man, lay abandoned on the streets of Puducherry, his frail body ravaged by illness and neglect. Days passed in unbearable suffering, with no family or friend to offer comfort. A compassionate passerby, moved by his plight, called for help, and an ambulance rushed him to JIPMER Hospital. After two weeks of intensive treatment, his condition began to stabilize.
His struggle with alcohol had left him separated and homeless. Recognizing his need for continued care, the hospital reached out to Snehan Home. When he arrived, he was bedridden, unable to move or even lift a glass of water. His infection had stolen his voice, leaving him unable to share his past. At Snehan Home, he was received with love and dignity. We cared for him tenderly feeding him, cleaning him, and changing his diapers, just as one would care for a child.
After three weeks, his health improved, though he required advanced medical support. He was referred for higher care, and today, he lives in good health. Seeing him alive fills us with joy, reminding us that even humble acts of compassion can restore hope and dignity.
