Mr.Abdul Kabir 87 years old destitute thatha from Kerala. His married life ended in his youth. His wife, remarried someone else, he don’t have any children or family members. He was working in many places, now too old to get job. Few weeks’ back he fell down and broke his leg and hand, this incident crippled his mobility.

He could not get medical support because he doesn’t have any caretakers, lost his dignity; every natural need is done in one place. Can’t clean himself, hundreds of flies keep him busy during the day and in the night thousands of mosquitoes.

Snehan, rescued from the street, brought back his dignity at Snehan Home. Now he is at peace, comforted at all sides.

Sick & disabled 82 years old man rescued from the streets for residential care

Mr.Murugesan 82 years old thatha is from Cuddalore. He is widower, the only son died long back. After the death of his wife and son, he became alone. No one to care about him and his needs. He used to beg on the streets for his survival, but he was not happy to be in Cuddalore. He came to Pondicherry only to beg and survive.

Two weeks back while walking on the streets, a lady in two wheeler knocked him down, never stopped the vehicle, nor came to help him. This incident crippled his mobility in one place. He could not get up; unbearable pain left him one place. He was deprived medical treatment because he did not have caretaker as well not self-reliant.

During our field visit, we met him and came to know his suffering condition. He was in desperate need for someone’s care & support. Snehan Home rescued him for residential care & support with the support of Grand Bazaar Police Station, now he is under medication and our caretaker gives him best of care.

Medical & residential support to disabled homeless man

One year back Santhosh met with accident and broke his leg, underwent surgery but still he is not fully recovered because no one to give him care & support. He came to Pondicherry for medication but because he doesn’t have caretakers with him, he could not get admitted in the hospital. He was found in Pondicherry bus stand with broken legs and unable to walk. Both the legs were infected with pus formation. The Orleanpet police called and requested us to rescue and rehabilitation him on 29th of May 2024. After rescue he was taken to Hospital for medical treatment and now undergoing medication along with residential care & support at Snehan Home. Once he recovers, he will be reunited with his family members.

Kaliyaperumal re-united with his family members

Snehan Home is delighted to find the family of Mr. Kaliyaperumal 75+ old man. He was rescued on the streets of Pondicherry in poor dying condition. At the time we picked up from the streets, he was very sick, blind could not see anything and was 100% deaf, we could not communicate with him and could not understand him for many days. Meanwhile with proper medical support, nutritious food at Snehan Home his health regained, he became more stable. We tried our best to know about him and his family; it took many days for us to get his home address. Every time we speak loud and make a sign in question about his family, he would say different things at different times. But as the days went by bit by bit we understood about his family and his hometown. Long into shot, we tried tracing the place he was repeating the maximum number of times. Finally found his hometown in Villupuram Dt.

We took him by our ambulance, as we entered his hometown; the villagers came running towards us, asking many questions. His family came to receive him. The whole lane of his colony and family was happy to receive him, for he had his own land and houses. As a team we were happy to save the life of Kaliyaperumal and reunite him back home with his family members.

Abandoned paralysis man rescued at destitute home

Mr.Raja 57 years old man was abandoned on the street by his own family members due to paralysis. He is completely bedridden, can’t do anything by himself at the time of rescue. After knowing his physical condition, we hurried to bring him. Now he is comforted at Snehan Home. For few days he was disturbed, cried always. With our care & moral support he was filled with peace. A dedicated caretaker looks after him 24/7. They give him bath, clean his motion and urine. They feed him, give him medicines regularly. He gets regular medical, physiotherapy support. He is improving every day. Hope to see him walking soon… We see value in everyone…

Medical support to sick & injured homeless man

Mr.Varadharajan 61 years old comes from Chidambaram. His parents died many years back and had one elder sister; she too died few years back. When he was 22 years old, he got married but his marriage lasted only few months. This incident drowned him in sadness, but recovered in later days. He was working as a daily labour and living independent life for many years. As the days passed by his health condition did not allow him to go for labour work. Then for a survival he used to go for a marriage function as a servant. This work fetched little income but not regular. Therefore this profession made him to come on the streets to live as a homeless man. He used to work when there was work, if not beg on the street for his survival.

Week back, he fell down and his shoulder dislocated with injury. Snehan Home rescued him and admitted in Snehan Home from the street. At present he is undergoing medical treatment for his shoulder through our support. Once he recovers back his health, he may plan to go back to his own profession.

Blind destitute man is rescued from the streets

Mr.Suresh 74 years old man from Pondicherry. He was an electrician, had a family of his own. His wife died 25 years back due to accident; he was looking after his two sons. After few years he lost his control over his children and no news about them till date.

He left his profession and joined to work in the tea shop and worked almost 20 years near Government Hospital. As the days went by his health and eyes became dim and unstable. These dark days left him destitute; he survived with someone’s charity and used to sleep in near the beach.

Now he is admitted in Snehan Home for the residential care & support. In coming days, he will be going through medical surgery for left eye for better vision. The right eye is already lost completely and can’t be corrected with medical support. Hope he will go through safe medical surgery.

Snehan Home’s Life-Saving Mission for the Neglected

Mr.Kaliyaperumal 75 years old man was rescued by Snehan Home. He is quite sick, nothing can be traced about him, the patient is not able to talk, he has head injuries and other problems. After cleaning him, we took him and admitted at Government Hospital for the medical care. Snehan Home caretaker is supporting and attending him, hope he will come back recovered. Dying destitute rescued and admitted in the hospital

Mr.Selvam 37 years old from Salem was found sick on the street of Pondicherry. He claims that he is unmarried and doesn’t have parents or family members. He is an alcoholic patient, who is affected with jaundice at an advanced stage. Snehan’s team spotted him near the beach very sick and in the process of talking, Selvam requested us to support him in admitting in the Government Hospital for medication. Through the legal procedure with our caretaker on 6th of March 2024 he was admitted for the treatment. His condition is not stable; he needs long medical treatment without break. But after three days of treatment, Selvam became impatient with the treatment and fought for immediate discharge. The doctor, nurse and our Snehan team explained his condition. But he was adamant in going out of medical treatment.

Snehan Home rescued 70 years old sick destitute grandpa from street

70 Years old Mani grandpa is forsaken by his family members two weeks back on the streets of Pondicherry. He claims that he is from Kallakurichi, he is not married and doesn’t have a family of his own. He lived an independent life, his brother’s sons used to support him rarely. For eight years he has suffered from a severe piles problem. Seldom had his brother’s sons take him to GH in Kallakurichi, since the treatment was not regular, he could not find healing. He struggles to sit or to do any kind of physical work. Because of his health condition, he won’t eat solid food but used to survive with liquid only. Since he was a thorn for his brother’s family, he was secretly brought to Pondicherry by his relatives and abandoned him. We Snehan spotted him on the streets near the bus stand, struggling physically, the pile was 5 inches out of his body 5 inches with severe infection. On 1^st of March 2024, through legal procedure, he was admitted to the GH in Pondicherry for the treatment. Now, Snehan Home is supporting him with caretaker and necessary needs.
