Basker reunited with his family members

Mr. Basker was rescued on the street of Pondicherry on 20^th of February 2024. At the time of our approach, he was sick, unable to walk and talk. He was found near the Government hospital, lying without anyone’s support. After rescue he was shifted to JIPMER hospital for medical support. Basker went through several medical tests in three weeks. Finally he was ruled out with a lump in his left lung. The medical team suspect that Basker may have cancer, but yet to conform with the biopsy test. Meanwhile, Snehan Home made several attempts to find his family, on 16^th of February 2024 we traced his younger brother in Chennai. After talking with his brother Mr.Venugopal Mobile: 9941410652. The Snehan team reunited Mr.Basker with his family with all the medical records and files. Snehan Home, agreed to support them in possible ways if they come for medical treatment in JIPMER. Means while we came to know that Mr.Basker got two sons and one daughter. He was happy to unite him with his family members once again, the family members too happy to see him after two years.

Dying destitute rescued and admitted in the hospital

Mr.Selvam 37 years old from Salem was found sick on the street of Pondicherry. He claims that he is unmarried and doesn’t have parents or family members. He is an alcoholic patient, who is affected with jaundice at an advanced stage. Snehan’s team spotted him near the beach very sick and in the process of talking, Selvam requested us to support him in admitting in the Government Hospital for medication. Through the legal procedure with our caretaker on 6th of March 2024 he was admitted for the treatment. His condition is not stable; he needs long medical treatment without break. But after three days of treatment, Selvam became impatient with the treatment and fought for immediate discharge. The doctor, nurse and our Snehan team explained his condition. But he was adamant in going out of medical treatment.

Snehan Home rescued 70 years old sick destitute grandpa from street

70 Years old Mani grandpa is forsaken by his family members two weeks back on the streets of Pondicherry. He claims that he is from Kallakurichi, he is not married and doesn’t have a family of his own. He lived an independent life, his brother’s sons used to support him rarely. For eight years he has suffered from a severe piles problem. Seldom had his brother’s sons take him to GH in Kallakurichi, since the treatment was not regular, he could not find healing. He struggles to sit or to do any kind of physical work. Because of his health condition, he won’t eat solid food but used to survive with liquid only. Since he was a thorn for his brother’s family, he was secretly brought to Pondicherry by his relatives and abandoned him. We Snehan spotted him on the streets near the bus stand, struggling physically, the pile was 5 inches out of his body 5 inches with severe infection. On 1^st of March 2024, through legal procedure, he was admitted to the GH in Pondicherry for the treatment. Now, Snehan Home is supporting him with caretaker and necessary needs.

51 Years old Basker is from Chengalpattu, he is married and has three children. He was kicked out of the family due to alcohol addiction. The family is very adamant not to take him back. Therefore, he was wandering around since then, finally reached Pondicherry. Since one month he has been very sick, lost his mobility. Somehow he was serving on the streets by charity. Snehan Home rescued him and provided residential care & support. Meanwhile, he was struggling to breathe normally and going through severe pain on the right side of his body. We took him to JIPMER casualty for medical treatment, after several tests and scans, the doctor found out that he has a big tumor on his lungs. Now he is under medical support at Snehan Home. He was asked to come for more medical tests on 4^th of March 2024.

Rescued the sick destitute man from the streets

Today Snehan Outreach staff rescued 51 years old Basker from the street. He is destitute and sick laying on the streets for the last 15days without any medication. After spotting the patients Snehan staff went to the nearest police station for the NOC letter, after receiving the same, the patient was rescued from the street and given a hot water bath. In the evening Snehan Home shifted him to JIPMER Hospital for medical support. More would be updated soon. Very special heartfelt thanks to Mr.Raja our staff for his dedication and effort.

The rejected is restored at Snehan Home

61 years old Mr.Raj is rescued from the Government Hospital on 10-2-2024. He is paralyzed for about three years on the left side, lost mobility and eyesight. On the 25^th of December 2023, he fainted and fell down from the staircase. When he woke up, he found himself in the hospital with bandaged around his leg. Because of his destitution the treatment was not fully met. The government authorities traced his family to unite with them, but the family rejected the call. About 45 days, the hospital authorities searched for residential care home but none could accept him with his condition. Finally, Snehan Home came forward to admit him in the residential care & support center. Now he feels safe & secure. All his basic needs are met at Snehan Home. 24 hours two care takers are supporting him on his improvement. At present he is undergoing medical support and physiotherapy in JIPMER.

Mr. Anumuthu founder of Snehan NGO, sharing about the organization and its purpose at Pondicherry. Also shared about the life of homeless people and their real needs to live dignified life. The new plan that is to start Snehan Home for the neglected sick people in Pondicherry. Anumuthu also talked about the tailoring project where marginalized women are being trained and employed to bring financial sustainability in their families. One of the successful products that goes allover India is traditional Jolna bags. Through his talk, he got new orders of Eco-friendly cotton Jolna bags.

knock india meet at Pune

kanthari alumni run organization KNOCK INDIA meet held at Pune from 27th of January to 30th of January 2023. Thirty participant from 30 state took part in this meeting, among them 20 were kanthari alumni. The meeting went on well, Mr. Karthikeyan from Sristi Village took one day session on efficient way of running organization and writing quality project proposal writing. During the session he mentioned one point that we should be “friend raiser” The successes of his amazing project is due to good friends of his. He believes good friends will build and run along with our vision and mission. His insight was an eye opening for many of us. During the stay at Pune, we meet other organizations and shared our thoughts and took their experience.

This 70 years old amma, ignored and lift on the streets by her own family after she lost her mobility and income. She took shelter under tree after her family pushed her out of home due to stinking odour. She would scream in pain and in hunger. None of her family members bothered to feed her or to give medical care. After knowing her condition, Snehan intervened in her life. Supported her for income generation activities and helped her with medical needs such as binding her wounds with medicine and financial support to survive. With regular flow up and constant care, we can see the changes in her leg and in her life. Our hearts are filled with joy, after seeing such an improvement.

Everyone wants to be respected and valued irrespective of cast, creed and social statues. We celebrate everyone as especially on their birthdays. Even though family members and husbands forget their spouse birthday’s, our organization practices to remember every individual’s birthday and celebrated with other staffs by cutting cake and giving gifts. Today we specially remember Mrs. Rama who is working with us for the past 4 years; she has played important role in the growth of our tailoring unit and trained many women in the tailoring. Few are her students who are working with Snehan and many elsewhere. We take this opportunity to appreciate for her dedicated work. We also wish her all the best for many more with us.
