Snehan Home creates memories in the lives of destitute

Same place, same faces and routine activities can this regular timetable create memories or happiness? With this thought in mind Anumuthu was keen to create memories in the lives of Snehan Home beneficiaries.

On 24th June 2026, 30 individuals boarded a AC bus to Chennai Vandalur Zoo and Mahabalipuram. By 5am our cook started making food for all of us, by 7.30am break fast was served, lunch was ready in the picnic pack. With four wheelchair patient and eight partially disabled person boarded the bus along with others.

The bus was filled with laughter and dance till we reached Zoo, every 45mins snacks was provided every person looked fresh and happy. All of us got down for break ordered personal choices of eatables, sat equally shared without discrimination. All ate with full of happiness the non-veg food we carried, love and sharing was filled in everyone’s heart.

The abled ones pushed the person with wheelchaired on every corner, showing them the animals and the beauty of the beaches. In long places we booked safari vehicle to go around. At 8.30 pm, we stopped in a hotel everyone ordered their personal choice of food and filled with satisfaction. By 10pm we reached Snehan Home safe with memories filled.

The oldest one is 80 years old; another 99% disable also was in the trip, for him this was his first ever picnic in his life time. The happiness of every individual was a vital. Snehan Home was happy to create memories in every person. Personally, Snehan Home takes this opportunity to thank and appreciate every donor who contributed for this causes especially Rotary Club Beach Town, Mr.Sudhakar and Mr.Gurumurthi for making it possible.

A Journey from the Streets to Family

In Puducherry, a dying man was rescued from the streets through the timely support of the Lawspet Police and Sharon Society of Pondicherry. With the referral of the Social Welfare Department, Mr. Rajesh, aged 60+, was admitted to Snehan Home for care and shelter.

At the time of admission, we discovered that Rajesh was suffering from severe ulcers, with half of his tongue dissolved. Unable to eat solid food, he survived only on liquids. Snehan Home immediately took him to the Government Hospital for treatment, but seeing his critical condition, the doctors hesitated to begin any intervention. After being sent from one department to another for half a day, we returned with heavy hearts, realizing that very little medical help could be offered.

Back at Snehan Home, Rajesh was kept in isolation and nourished with liquid food. Slowly, he regained enough strength to walk. With the support of Mr. Sharon Mohan and the Police, we traced his hometown and family. After a week, his relatives arrived, and Rajesh was joyfully reunited with them.

Rajesh struggling with alcoholism, he had run away from home, surviving on charity and collecting waste materials to sell. Years of alcohol and smoking had crippled his health. Yet, through collective effort, we were able to save him from the brink of death and restore him to his family.

Every act of compassion, no matter how small, carries the power to save a life.

Strengthening NGOs Through Skills and Compliance

In the journey of social service, Goodwill Mission – Snehan has realized that passion alone cannot sustain successful organization skills are equally vital. Every NGO begins with a spark, whether born from personal hardship, community struggles, or a deep desire to bring justice and equality. Yet, as the journey unfolds, one crucial aspect emerges: legal compliance, financial management and others. Without it, even the most noble service can face setbacks, and society risks losing dedicated individuals who lack awareness of rules and regulations.

To address this, Dhwani Foundation has been empowering NGOs with structured training in compliance and organizational skills. Over the past 10 months, 32 NGOs from Tamil Nadu, including Goodwill Mission – Snehan, have participated in the Niranthara Saksham program. When we began, our organizational score was just 15%. Today, it has risen to 85%, reflecting the transformation this program has brought.

Recently, a Dhwani Foundation team led by Executive Director (ED) Gopinath K.N., along with Mr. Veera and Mr. Manoj, visited Snehan. They engaged with our board and staff for three hours, reviewing our processes and documentation. Their encouragement and appreciation left us inspired to aim even higher.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dhwani Foundation for their tireless efforts in uplifting NGOs and strengthening the social sector.

A Birthday Filled with Love and Surprises at Snehan Home

Ten days before the big day, Mrs. Ramu reached out to Snehan Home with a heartfelt wish, to celebrate her husband’s birthday in a truly special way. Together, we planned a surprise that would bring joy not only to Mr. Ramu but also to our beloved grandpas at Snehan.

On the day of celebration, delicious food was lovingly prepared for all our inmates. A surprise cake-cutting ceremony and a blessing banner added to the excitement. When the moment arrived, Mr. Ramu was overwhelmed with joy—his family’s thoughtful gesture and Snehan’s efforts made it a birthday to remember.

For Snehan, this was the very first time we organized such a surprise, and it turned out to be unforgettable. Our grandpas wore birthday caps, held blessing cards, sang songs, and prayed for Mr. Ramu and his family. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, love, and heartfelt prayers.

We invite you too to celebrate your special days such as birthdays, anniversaries, or family milestones with the less privileged at Snehan Home. Together, let’s bring smiles, blessings, and unforgettable memories to those who need them most.

From Barefoot Struggles to Guiding Light

Anumuthu’s childhood was shadowed by deprivation, where even the simplest necessities were beyond reach. With tender feet and tiny hands, he would rise at dawn, walking barefoot five kilometres to reach a labor site by 6 a.m. School was a distant dream; survival meant working to feed his family.

By divine grace, his path changed when Fr. Joe Arimpoort extended a compassionate hand. Though learning was a struggle, Fr. Joe placed him in a bridge school, sparking hope and resilience. Much of his knowledge was self-taught, yet his determination never faltered. When Fr. Joe moved to Hyderabad, Anumuthu followed, stepping into a world of unfamiliar language and people.

In that new chapter, Mr. Amit became a beacon of guidance. With patience and care, he taught Anumuthu the basics and lessons of the 10th standard. Through Amit’s dedication, Anumuthu passed his exams in English medium under the National Open School, and later completed his 11th and 12th standards. These milestones were possible only because of Mr. Amit’s unwavering support and belief in him.

Years have passed, and today Anumuthu leads a social organization with 15 staff members, serving the destitute with dignity and compassion. This month, destiny came full circle when Mr. Amit, along with his family, visited Snehan Home in Pondicherry. His generous donation of ₹10,000 was more than financial support—it was a symbol of shared joy, recognition, and the enduring bond between teacher and student.

Whatever Anumuthu has become today, Mr. Amit holds a cherished place in that journey. Welcoming his mentor into Snehan Home was a moment of profound happiness, and for Mr. Amit, witnessing the progress of his former student was a living testament to the power of dedication, resilience, and love.

Celebrating Life – Honoring the End

Every life begins with joy and ends in silence. When a baby is born, families celebrate with love and laughter, cherishing the mother as the most honored and adored. But as years pass, those babies grow into parents and grandparents. In their final stage of life, many face struggles instead of celebration, waiting quietly for the end, often without care or companionship.

Thousands of elderly parents today survive on the streets, abandoned and unwanted, carrying sadness in their hearts. For such forgotten lives, Snehan Home exists, to restore dignity, provide care, and offer a family when theirs turned away.

Mr. Subramani, about 85 years old, came to us in a critical condition, bedridden and fragile. Through our medical, nutrition and residential care, he was able to live one more year with dignity and love. This month, he answered the eternal call. Snehan Home stood by him until his last breath, ensuring his final rights with respect.

At Snehan Home, we believe no elderly person should die neglected. We celebrate their lives, care for them like family, and give them the dignity they deserve both in living and in leaving.

Snehan Receives Honor for Compassionate Service

The Brahma Kumaris Trust recently celebrated 90 years of dedicated humanitarian service, uplifting countless lives across countries. To mark this milestone, a special gathering was held in Puducherry, bringing together NGOs committed to serving the marginalized.
The event was graced by distinguished chief guests: Rtn. Vaithianathan K (District Governor 2026–2027) and Rtn. Dr. Vanaja Vaithianathan (Founder & Medical Director, Jothi Eye Care Centre, Puducherry).
More than 42 NGO founders were honored for their tireless contributions to society. Among them, Snehan Home was recognized for its decade-long mission of saving lives of neglected individuals on the streets and giving them a chance to live with dignity. Through medical intervention, rehabilitation, family reunification, and dignified end-of-life care, Snehan has brought hope and transformation to the helpless.
Mr. Anumuthu, Founder and Director of Snehan, received a token of appreciation and honor from Rtn. Vaithianathan and Dr. Vanaja Vaithianathan. This recognition stands as a testament to Snehan’s unwavering commitment to humanity.

Dhwani Foundation Fellowship Visit to Snehan Project

The Snehan Project in Puducherry recently welcomed the Dhwani Foundation team as part of their fellowship program. Dhwani Foundation has been playing a vital role in strengthening the NGO sector by equipping organizations with structured training and essential documentation practices that ensure effective and sustainable operations.

For the past nine months, Goodwill Mission – Snehan has been actively engaged in this fellowship journey. During this time, our team has received valuable guidance to elevate our organizational capacity to the next level. The training sessions have not only enhanced our knowledge but also helped us put systems in place that make our work more impactful and professional.

As part of the fellowship’s follow‑up, Mr. Praveen and Mr. Manoj from Dhwani Foundation visited Snehan to observe how we are applying the skills we have learned. Their visit was encouraging, as they witnessed firsthand the improvements in our processes and the way we have integrated training outcomes into daily practice.

We are grateful to Dhwani Foundation for their mentorship and support. Their commitment to empowering NGOs ensures that organizations like Snehan can continue to serve marginalized communities with greater efficiency, accountability, and compassion.

A Peaceful Farewell for Gandhi Thatha – RIP

Snehan Home mourns the loss of Mr. Gandhi, a 75‑year‑old man who, though he had children, was sadly neglected. He came to us in poor health through the support of Mr. Ilaiyarasan’s family. With our care, he slowly recovered, but the pain of rejection and depression left him bedridden. Later, he suffered a stroke on his right side, which took away his speech and ability to communicate. From then on, he received our care around the clock, just like a baby.

Being diabetic, he developed pressure wounds on his leg. With regular medical dressing, most healed, but one worsened over time. His condition became weaker day by day. He could no longer eat or drink, even though he wished to. On Sunday 03-05-2026, we rushed him to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute for treatment. From there, he was transferred to the Government Hospital and later to JIPMER, where he passed away during medical care on 5^th of May 2026. Wit respect and dignity his body was buried.

One Step Ahead for Snehan Project

It is a proud moment for me, Anumuthu, to become a member of BNI (Business Network International) not as a businessperson, but as a Social Change Maker. BNI is the world’s largest and most successful structured networking and referral organization, with over 355,000 members worldwide. Each local chapter meets weekly to build long term relationships and exchange referrals based on the “Givers Gain” philosophy. Importantly, every chapter reserves one slot for an NGO that serves society in a meaningful way. Through this process, Goodwill Mission – Snehan, was selected.
I feel deeply honored to represent our humble organization and its mission: to save the lives of neglected elderly people and give them meaningful days and dignified endings. This vision is far greater than what my hands alone can achieve. To realize this long awaited dream, I need strong partners like BNI to stand with us for larger network.
As a family, we were invited to the membership ceremony, where we were received with respect and encouragement. At this moment, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Savaranakumar, who introduced me to the BNI Fluence chapter and generously supported me financially to become a member. His kindness and effort will surely bear fruit in the days to come.
