On this special occasion, people express gratitude to the tools, instruments, and equipment that help them earn their livelihood and support their daily lives. These tools are cleaned, decorated, worshipped, and given a day of rest as a mark of respect and appreciation. Ayudha Pooja reminds us of the importance of recognizing and honoring what serves and supports us.

As we reflected on this beautiful tradition, our thoughts turned to the elderly residents of Snehan Home. Many of them once lived surrounded by the love of their children, relatives, and communities. They dedicated their lives to raising families, building homes, and making countless sacrifices for the well-being of others. Sadly, in their later years, many were neglected, abandoned, or left to fend for themselves. Some struggled even for their most basic needs and found themselves living on the streets, forgotten by society.

At Snehan Home, we believe that every elderly person is valuable, respected, and deserving of love and dignity. The families and societies we enjoy today were built on their hard work, wisdom, and sacrifices. While others may have forgotten their contributions, we choose to remember and celebrate them. Just as Ayudha Pooja honors the tools that have served us faithfully, we honor our elders who have devoted their lives to serving their families and communities.

At Snehan Home, we have observed that elderly residents recover better when they are meaningfully occupied. When they have too much idle time, they may dwell on worries, imaginary concerns, physical discomforts, or past memories. This often leads to complaints, misunderstandings, and conflicts that require constant attention and support.
However, when residents are involved in simple daily activities, they appear happier, more energetic, and mentally refreshed. They develop a better appetite, enjoy improved sleep, and experience a greater sense of purpose and well-being.
To promote active and healthy aging, Snehan Home encourages residents to participate in light tasks according to their abilities. Some help with poultry farming, others assist in the tailoring unit, support kitchen activities, help maintain the premises, or welcome visitors at the entrance. These meaningful occupations give them a sense of responsibility, dignity, and belonging.
We believe that purposeful engagement is an important part of the healing process. Staying active not only enhances their physical and mental health but also speeds recovery, boosts self-esteem, and helps restore joy and confidence in their daily lives.

The International Day of Older Persons is a reminder to honor the elderly for their wisdom, guidance, and lifelong contributions. These are the people who built families, nurtured children, and shaped society. In their younger years, they carried the responsibility of securing the future generation. Today, many grow fragile, longing for rest and dignity as they near the end of life’s journey.
It is our responsibility as the younger generation to value their lives, respect their dignity, and accept them with love. The greatest gift we can give the elderly is care and companionship. Snehan Home is blessed to bring meaning and value to their lives.
Adding to this joy, we celebrated the 81st birthday of Natarajan Thatha. His wisdom, dedication, and unwavering support for Snehan Home cannot be measured. He has been a pillar of strength to our mission, inspiring us with his responsibility and commitment. We took this opportunity to honor him, celebrate his life, and rejoice together in the spirit of gratitude.

After a tragic accident, infections spread across both his legs, leaving him unable to walk or reach a hospital. Alone, hungry, and in pain, he endured days of hardship until a kind passerby admitted him to the hospital. With timely treatment, his condition improved, but once discharged, he had nowhere to go.
Back on the streets, his infection worsened again. At this critical moment, a compassionate soul reached out to Snehan Home, requesting emergency medical and residential support. Snehan welcomed him with open arms, providing three months of dedicated care. Every day, he received medical dressings, regular medicines, and nutritious meals. Slowly, his health improved, and his strength returned.
Today, Mr. Jothi can walk again. With renewed confidence, he came forward himself to request discharge, eager to work and live independently. Snehan Home rejoiced as he stepped out with dignity and self-respect.
This is the heart of our mission: to restore dignity and empower the neglected to stand on their own. Your support makes stories like Mr. Jothi’s possible. Together, we can save lives and give hope where it’s needed most.

As I passed Asharam Book Store, I saw a fragile young man lying in front of the shop, screaming in pain, without any clothing. His condition was unbearable to witness, and I could not continue with my business. My heart urged me to help.
I called my team, and together we approached him. A foul odor came from his torn trousers, which he resisted us removing. When we carefully cut them open, we were shocked to see a deep wound on his hip, with the pelvic bone exposed and infected. Right there on the street, we used cans of water to clean him, dressed him in fresh clothes, and rushed him in our auto to the Government Hospital for emergency care.
Doctors and nurses did their best, but his prolonged infection and complications made recovery impossible. For four weeks, Snehan Home caregivers stayed by his side, feeding him, cleaning him, changing diapers, and giving medicines regularly. Despite all efforts, his life ended in the hospital.
Though his death grieves us, he did not die abandoned. He passed away with dignity, cared for and loved by Snehan Home.

Imagine a person on the brink of death, rescued through medical care. Charity restores their health, but the true impact is seen when they rise again, earn a living, and live independently. Was it charity that saved their life, or empowerment that gave them dignity? The truth is, it was both. Charity becomes the bridge to empowerment, and empowerment is the fruit of charity.
At Snehan Home, we witness this transformation daily. Take the story of Mr. Raja. Rejected by his own family after a stroke left him disabled, he was found abandoned on the streets. We brought him in, cleaned him, cared for him like a child, and ensured regular hospital visits. For a year, he depended on our care. Today, he is walking again, striving to regain mobility and rebuild his life. His journey is proof that charity saves lives, and empowerment helps them flourish.
Recently, Snehan Home received a gift that will further boost this mission. A fitness bike, donated by Mr. Sudhakar and his family, will help our residents recover strength and maintain health. Alongside this, a 43” LED TV was generously given for our women’s block, bringing joy and connection to their daily lives. We also extend heartfelt thanks to Mr. Preetham, a friend of Sudhakar, who made this support possible.
Every contribution, whether big or small, adds meaning to someone’s life. It restores dignity, rekindles hope, and empowers the forgotten to live again with respect.

Mr. Anumuthu, Founder and Director of Goodwill Mission – Snehan, was recognized with the Vocational Excellence Award and the Nation Builders Award for his tireless humanitarian service to the neglected and abandoned people living on the streets of Puducherry.
While Pondicherry has a few old age homes, Snehan Home stands unique in its mission. It is the only home in the region that rescues the sick and dying from the streets, offering them medical care, shelter, and compassionate support. This life saving intervention gives people at the edge of death a chance at recovery, dignity, and a new beginning. Once restored to health, residents are discharged, empowered to live independently again.
Through this mission, Snehan Home saves 30 to 50 lives every year, bringing hope and value to those who were once forgotten. For this extraordinary service, Mr. Anumuthu was rightfully honored with the Vocational Excellence Award.

Snehan Home first found him in a fragile state on the streets of Pondicherry weak, unstable, unable to walk, and not in sound mind. At the time of rescue, he was so dependent that caregivers had to provide diaper care and feed him in bed. With consistent medical attention, residential support, and compassionate care, his health gradually improved until he regained the strength to walk independently.
For the past three days, Susaimuthu expressed a strong desire to leave Snehan Home. As a chronic alcoholic, medical tests revealed his liver was severely damaged, and doctors strictly advised him not to consume alcohol. Despite counseling and guidance, his determination to go out remained firm. Respecting his choice, Snehan Home discharged him to live independently, while reminding him of the importance of protecting his health.
His story reflects both the challenges of rehabilitation and the resilience of the human spirit. Snehan Home continues to believe that every life deserves dignity, care, and hope even when the path forward depends on personal choices.

His body bore infected wounds around the waist, emitting a foul odor. He was screaming in pain, surrounded by filth, motion all over his body, and his unstable mind kept everyone away. No one dared to approach him.

Snehan Home could not turn away. Our team rushed to the spot, bathed him, changed his clothes, and immediately admitted him to the Government Hospital’s accident ward. Doctors, however, gave little hope due to his fragile health and unstable condition.

Even so, Snehan caregivers remain by his side cleaning him, changing diapers, feeding him on time, and supporting his medication. His recovery may take months, and doctors still hesitate to give positive answers. Yet, Snehan stands firm: every life matters, every soul deserves dignity.

We believe that with compassion and cooperation, even the most broken lives can be restored. Snehan is committed to supporting the neediest patients in society. If hospitals and communities join hands, countless lives can be saved.
